OTS customs
Reminiscing about holiday memories:
OTS customs – further training for experienced X-ray screenersFurther Training
Coral or rare seashells as vacation souvenirs?
Drugs and cigarettes in a handbag?
What items are subject to customs clearance? – What are passengers allowed to take with them?
After successfully completing initial and recurrent training, screeners are familiar with both theoretical background and practical duties and are able to recognize dangerous situations quickly and correctly – now they have to further develop their abilities. Hence, OTS customs allows experienced screeners to discover specific prohibited items. This advanced training module on X-ray image interpretation is designed specifically for personnel who screens luggage in accordance with aviation security regulations. Tailored to the steadily increasing requirements in civil aviation, the simulator combines different categories and learning procedures to familiarize trainees with both daily and customs related items, thus improving detection performance.
Regular and genuine training improves screeners’ ability to correctly assess threats – quick and reliable detection of dangerous objects is enormously important in highly-sensitive areas such as aviation.
Only frequent training allows security personnel to contribute to increasing global security.
Images are structured in units that are loosely based on our STEP methodology, therefore ranging from easy to difficult and from uncomplicated to challenging. Everyday objects are followed by items covering fields such as drugs, precious metals, or gemstones, all assigned to various groups of items and degrees of difficulty.
Hence, an effective training is guaranteed and recognition performance is boosted, allowing screening experts to elaborate their knowledge.
All OTS X-ray simulators use high-quality X-ray images that are displayed at the same resolution as on the Xray machine. Students are exposed to customs-related items (i.e., drugs) as well as parts of such items, such as drug using equipment. Our image library contains real scanned bags of passenger luggage taken at both real checkpoints and in our bag capture facility.
OTS customs perfectly complements the other products of the OTS family which enable employee training in basic and advanced courses. As with all of STI’s other OTS computer-based training courses, all images are recorded in .hif file format of the manufacturer Smiths Detection – lossless, high-quality original image files provide optimal conditions for learning and practicing. Of course all relevant image enhancement features of the X-ray machine are provided: Students can view the bag using image enhancement features such as ‘NEG‘, ‘SEN‘ or ‘OS‘. The simulated keyboard, an accurate copy from Smiths Detection X-ray machines, facilitates authentic, practical training.
OTS customs hence enables experienced screeners to identify everyday objects in cabin baggage and to reliably detect customs related objects.
Our software solutions are offered in packages which not only include theoretical and practical teaching, but also extensive evaluation, and are rounded off by online and offline support, as well as updates.
